E is for Ever the Early Bird

Debs was up this morning at 5am again. All her life she has been an early riser - with occasional exceptions for over indulgencies of the night before, but even then she would quite often get up early to work through the feeling (sometimes to return to bed later!) So even now, when she is battling the last crys of this horrid thing, she rises early. Then she is exhausted from the sheer effort of getting out of bed.

This morning she also seemed agitated. Deb can't swallow her tablets now, so it could be from needing more pain relief, which the nurses give, as and when, with morphine. She has had moments of lucidity - and weve been remeniscing - Nottingham, Bilton High, Australia, teaching, first period (!), moving to Holland, etc. We've been reading out the apps, texts, messages, blog comments and cards. Describing photos, and playing muisc (thanks Liz). Thank you for all

So at 5am this morning I was advised by the nurses to call Ed in, so we are all here. The staff are fab, letting us sleep in various spare beds, and caring for us as well as Deebs. Deb is aware, mostly her eyes are closed, she has hallucinations some of the time, but also her sense of humour is still here, we have a "banter"''going, as Archie and Hattie would call chatting.

Deb has moments of not really knowing what to do with herself. She says shes not in pain, and the nurses and ourselves are watching for any signs of her being in distress.

The outpouring of love and well wishes and messages is overwhelming, and Deb is aware of it all. Knowing she is loved, and has so many friends is so heart warming. Thank you xxx

ps. I am writing this in a distracted fashion, so please excuse its clumsiness. xxx.
